AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws
The unit AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw to carry out routine work tasks in agriculture, land management, forestry, and conservation environments.
Training focuses on the application of work health and safety (WHS) requirements, including hazard identification, risk control measures, correct selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to workplace procedures and manufacturer instructions. Learners develop practical competence in pre-operational checks, safe starting and operational techniques, basic fault identification, routine maintenance, cleaning, and correct storage of chainsaws.

Fees
Wongutha CAPS is funded through a combination of Commonwealth and state grants, along with ABSTUDY payments via Centrelink. Students are not required to pay any course or subject fees.

After completing AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws, learners can progress to advanced chainsaw units, forestry or land management training, or Certificate II/III qualifications in rural or environmental industries.
Entry Requirements
Learners must be physically capable of safely participating in supervised chainsaw operations, including the ability to:
· Lift, carry, start, and control a handheld chainsaw
· Maintain balance on uneven outdoor surfaces
· Use correct body positioning and two-handed grip
· Wear required PPE (chainsaw chaps, steel-cap boots, eye and hearing protection)
· Bend, squat, kneel, and stand for practical tasks
· Follow safety instructions and respond to emergency directions
· Work safely in outdoor and remote conditions (heat, dust, noise, vibration)
Learners must not have a condition that could compromise safety. Reasonable adjustments may be made where appropriate, provided safety is not compromised. Delivery will be age-appropriate, supervised, and respectful of cultural and community protocols.
